NIGELLA AND HER FESTIVE TOP COAT…

Saturday afternoon was spent with Nigella with one very important mission in mind, that of icing my lovely Christmas cake  – Nige.  Maybe a little over familiar considering I’m going to be eating him (!!) but we’ve become extremely close during the last few weeks.   Myself and Ms Lawson baked Nige a few weeks ago at our own stir up saturday party and he’s been tucked away in the Hillside pantry since then. SNOWED IN, ONLY ONE THING FOR IT, MORE BAKING!

Couldn’t resist this, as the snow fell in Edinburgh (again….) there was only one thing for it, more baking… I wasn’t going to leave the house today so I thought I’d put the time to good use and bake a few cookies….and seeing as this is the FESTIVE SEASON I swiftly reached for Nigella’s Christmas book, where else?  Kettle on, tea pot filled, best china cups at the ready, Christmas movie on TV – you couldn’t write it! Sunday afternoon’s don’t get better than this….happy happy 🙂

STIR UP SATURDAY, OUR 2010 FESTIVE LAUNCH PARTY….

For some reason this year (more than EVER) I am super excited about Christmas (read: it’s all about the festive food) and on Saturday I officially launched ‘Christmas at the Hillside’!  The launch party involved me (natch), Nigella (special guest appearance), and Mr Predictable (for a change) and what fun we had!  The three of us threw caution to the wind and decided that Saturday was going to be our ‘STIR UP’ day.  I know I know, stir up day is usually Sunday but what the heck, we were going to live a little and bring it forward a day.

No particular reason for inviting Nigella to this party.  I’ve read various christmas cake recipes over the last few weeks, Delia is probably the obvious choice for most but I have to say she doesn’t use as much brandy in her cake (shocker!!) and this is the festive season after all so it was Nigella all the way for me!

Drum roll please….

16 hours to launch and counting :- approx 1kg of various vine fruit were brought to the boil in 600ml’s of brandy then left to soak overnight…divine smells all round the Hillside, who needs Glade?! Continue reading

5 more sleeps…

hi bloggers, a wee apology as all is quiet on the monkfish blog at present…I’m getting married to Mr Predictable this saturday so have been a bit pre-occupied of late!

I’ll be back soon though with foodie tales from the wedding (at The Atrium, super excited re the wedding breakfast), from our honeymoon (food delights in Marrakech…then Paris) and of course the food highlight of the year that is Christmas which will be spent at home in Edinburgh with assistance from Delia, Jamie and a wee bit of Nigella.

So, signing out for a few weeks and back soon as the Mrs to Mr Predictable 8) x
