There is so much going on right now it’s hard to know where to start… Mrs M has just rolled the ‘magic’ dice and it said EAT, so perhaps that is where we should start this edition of Monkfish Monday…with food…for a change.

Popcorn to be exact. Really need one of these at the Towers…

–  We’ve been hanging out at Lovecrumbs this week, they’re ‘about to’ (inverted commas) open a new place on Brunswick Street, look out for their soon to open news via Instagram.

– Lucky Mrs M dined at Number One at The Balmoral last week just to ‘check out’ their new refurb. You’ll find her photos over on our Facebook page. Yes, it was pretty spectacular and she’s been raving on about how blooming lovely Chef Jeff Bland is…

The Kitchin also celebrated their latest refurbishment which has extended the dining space and then some. There’s some great photos over on their new Instagram feed.

– We love this book Hemsley & Hemsley, and think you will too. Healthy yes but still really really good! They’ve inspired us to buy a spiralizer so we can do all of THIS.

Soderberg formerly Peter’s Yard in Edinburgh has opened a HUGE bakery/pizza place in Quartermile. It looks and smells amazing, pizza by the slice, what’s not to like.

– Love this short film by Carol Sachs on the rebuilding of @PolpettoW1 & the brilliant @FlorenceKnight #food #film

– And food news just in….we’re excited to be able to tell you that our friends Dram & Smoke will be ‘popping up’ during the festival this year, hurrah for that. We’ll let you know when we know more.

– Our new favourite bar in town is Spitfire, check it out!

– Finally, some light entertainment for you from Wednesday 11th February 2015. Mrs Monkfish took part in a Google Hangout on behalf of The BIG Dinner. You can tune in HERE.

The BIG dinner

7th March 2015
The BIG dinner

We want to give a shout out this week to The Big Dinner which is happening on 7th March 2015. It’s about eating, drinking, and socialising, something we do every day, well, maybe not the drinking bit…although Mrs M is still hitting the sherry despite the festive season being well behind us…..

The BIG dinner is a 500 miles initiative to raise £500,000 in a single night to help people with mobility difficulties in Malawi and Zambia to live independent lives. 500 miles provides artificial limbs and braces for people with disabilities of the limbs and spine.

The concept of the BIG dinner is simple Continue reading

Jelly & Gin are your new best friends….period. They create ‘unforgettable edible adventures’ unlike any other ‘edible adventures’ you’ll have been to in Edinburgh (and beyond…). Their events are ‘happenings’ and are so unusual and unique you’ll never have experienced anything like it before….and ones that you’ll talk about forever because they are that good.

jellyandgin.PR.222If you haven’t heard of Jelly & Gin before then let’s hope this blog post will change all that. They’ve just won a Creative Edinburgh award for Best Start-Up business and you only need to look at their recent successes to see why.
We’ve been to quite a few of their events, we talked about Create:Eat:Whisky earlier in the year which was one of the most unique whisky tasting experiences we’ve ever been to.

Their upcoming adventure is called Watch & Wolf, a multi sensory cinema experience….think about the 4D IMAX experience at Eurodisney then immediately ‘dump that thought’ and book tickets for this instead, you won’t be disappointed. Tickets are available via the Jelly & Gin website.
Find them on Facebook @jellyandginproductions and Twitter @jellyandgin

This is a great little film from our friends Dram & Smoke who ‘pop-up’ in some very cool venues including this steel yard in Vauxhall, London, earlier this year.

They are about to pop up again with their Winter Menu from mid November (Weds 19th to be precise) to mid December in a brand new, never-used-before venue called Black Swan Yard on Bermondsey Street – run by the Dram & Smoke DishesAnd here’s a sneaky peek at the menu for November….
With whisky cocktails being served in a pop-up whisky den thanks to Monkey Shoulder you can expect a few hot toddies too, what more can you ask for when the nights are drawing in….
