The very lovely people at the Galvin Brasserie De Luxe asked us over for lunch last week…so after a split second of umming and ahhing we thought to heck with it, why not?! And to top it off they kindly offered readers a slap up lunch or dinner for two with a bottle of Galvin selected wine thrown in. See end of article for competition details.

Let it be said, we’re Galvin fans. We’ve been lucky enough to dine at the Bistrot De Luxe on Baker Street W1, walk past La Chapelle E1 sighing ‘we’d love to dine there’, and only dream about eating at Galvin Windows where the lovely Fred Sirieix orchestrates the evening. One day….. For those of you who are not as familiar with Chris and Jeff Galvin then read more here.

So, super excited at the Galvins arriving in Edinburgh we were keen to eat at their new establishment(s). We dined at the Brasserie de Luxe, which takes inspiration from the great Parisian brasseries of the past.

Well Monkfish fans, have we got a Chrissssstmaaaaas treat for you!

If you’re a foodie fan, which clearly you must be having stumbled upon ‘the Monkfish’ then you could be one of TEN lucky peeps (yep, TEN, you heard it!) to win a pair of tickets for this year’s ‘Foodies Christmas‘. The event takes place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on the 1st and 2nd December and is promised to be fun packed and food packed. You’ll stumble out of there looking like the big man himself….give or take the facial hair 😉

First up, what’s happening at Foodies Christmas this year. Well, here’s just a wee snippet of the fun to be had…or if you want to just cut to the chase and win some tickets then scoot to the bottom of this post!

The 2-day festival includes chef demonstrations, food and drinks masterclasses, a producers’ market, a gifts’ market and bars and cafes.

Foodies Christmas features some of Scotland’s top chefs who will cook their festive signature dishes live in the Chefs’ Theatre and explain how amateur cooks can prepare the same dishes at home.

This year’s line-up comprises Michelin-starred chefs…Jeff Bland from The Balmoral Hotel,

John Quigley  from Red Onion, Scottish chef of the year 2011 Neil Forbes,

Great British Menu contestant Mark Greenaway,

Jacqueline O’Donnell from The Sisters, Graeme Pallister from 63 Tay Street, Carina Contini from Centotre, Paul Tamburrini from The Honours,

Tom Lewis from Monachyle Mhor,

Paul Wedgwood from Wedgwood the Restaurant, Iggy Campos of Iggs Restaurant and Mattia Camorani from Cucina at Hotel Missoni. Crikey, quite a few good eggs then!

Jeff Bland said:  “The festive season is a fantastic time of year to discover new recipes and interesting combinations of food with family and friends.  I’m delighted to be taking part in Foodies Christmas this year and showcasing my Roast fillet of Halibut in Christmas Spices – a tasty alternative to the traditional turkey dinner.”

This year’s Christmas Food Theatre is being run by Edinburgh New Town Cookery School.  With six hands-on lessons per day visitors will get the chance to perfect Christmas canapés, decorate cakes and take part in family classes.

The Drinks Theatre invites visitors to be amongst the first in the UK to sample new products and expand their knowledge.  Over the course of the weekend Hendricks Gin will demonstrate ‘The 12 Drinks of Christmas’,

Treacle Bar will unlock the mystery of the perfect Christmas cocktail including a special Foodies creation, The Whisky Lounge will share samples of amazing whiskies, The Eden Brewery from St Andrews will offer tastings of local beers and wine-expert Charles Metcalfe will run festive wine tastings.

With over 100 exhibitors, the Producers’ Market showcases the best Scottish produce including cheese, meat, cakes and breads, sweets and chocolate, and an array of gifts, as well as containing a wine and champagne village and a whisky demo area.  Visitors can relax with a mulled wine and a mince pie whilst listening to traditional carol singers in the bar and cafe areas which will also be selling hot cider and roasted chestnuts.
