If you’ve not been to the Secret Herb Garden yet then now you’ve got an excuse…not that you needed one….
The Secret Herb Garden opened its doors in May 2014 by Hamish and Liberty Martin who wanted to introduce people to the ‘magical world of herbs’. Located in a once derelict greenhouse to the southwest of Edinburgh the Secret Herb Garden is a place to be enjoyed and embraced by the surrounding herbs, plants and nature. The garden isn’t just about gardening….
There are courses on offer ranging from bee keeping, candle making, a complete range of herbal courses and seed planting activities for children.
There is a fabulous family friendly café serving fresh, healthy, seasonal and wholesome homemade food grown and produced where possible at the Garden. The cakes are divine, trust us, we’ve tried a few….
The herb garden shop supports the products that Hamish and Liberty make from the land such as candles, honey, teas, coffee and freshly cut flowers. Coming very soon, the Secret Herb Garden beer, watch this space.
Next weekend the garden will celebrate a very successful first 12 months and this is what’s happening….
The Gardener’s Cottage chefs Ed and Dale will be pottering about the herbs answering any ‘cooking with herbs’ questions you might have. There is storytelling in the Yurt from Amanda Edmiston, children’s seed sowing with the Green Man and much much more. Sharing the celebrations will be Stretch Tents Scotland who’ve got very cool alternatives to marquees – tents that literally stretch – you may have seen them in St Andrew’s Square during the festival last year.
The Family Fun Day is on Saturday 9th May from 10am till 4pm.
