A very quick baking post while we’re perhaps still in ‘Royal Wedding’ mode! In true Mr Predictable style my other half decided to share his birthday this year with the much anticipated marriage of Wills and Kate, honestly, the gall of the man! So, in true Mrs Monkfish style I thought I’d better whizz him up a home made birthday cake to celebrate the whole affair.
Now, let me see, this should have been a relatively easy one – a man who loves his cake and who loves his lemons (tis true!) – after several wee chats with my fellow Twitterati (thank you @Bakersbunny et al) the decision was made. Mary Berry Viccy sponge (an ‘all in one, you can’t go wrong’ recipe) sandwiched together with vanilla buttercream and home made ‘zingy lemon curd’ (thank you @thepinkwhisk).
And what a result! Said result took nigh on 3 hours from commencement to completion due to the fact that I was preoccupied with Alexander McQueen wedding gowns, Becks and his medal fashion faux pas, Sir Elton bumbling up the Abbey winking at fellow guests and Charles wiping his nose (having removed his white gloves), nice.
I don’t know about you but I couldn’t take my eyes off the wide screen all day. Tremendous occasion for all of us particularly Mr Predictable who managed a rather large piece of cake at several different sittings during the day. First slice during the service in the Abbey, second slice whilst ‘one was kissing on the balcony mwah mwah’ and third slice while Beatrice and Eugenie were partying it up ‘Gaga Style’!
Once more the lovely Mr Predictable lives up to his reputation, if he likes something he’ll just go back for more, and more, and more….. 🙂
